U.S. Probation Officer
The U.S. Probation for the Northern District of West Virginia is seeking a United States Probation Officer for the Wheeling, West Virginia office.
Conduct investigations Presents and prepares bail and/or presentence reports
Provides recommendations for sentencing of individuals to the Court
Interpret and apply the U.S. Sentencing Commission guidelines and relevant case law
Supervises defendants/offenders to maximize adherence to conditions and reduce risk to community
Conduct preliminary interviews and investigations as required
Maintain detailed record of case activity Any other related duties as required
Bachelor’s degree in a field of academic study such as criminal justice, criminology, psychology, sociology, human relations or business/public administration
Must be citizen of the United State
Broad knowledge of the criminal justice system.
Thorough knowledge of investigative and supervision techniques
Ability to evaluate and apply statutes and implement regulations
Skill in counseling defendants/offenders
Skill in communicating orally and in writing
Broad knowledge of community and community resources
